At CalJin AI, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience when using our mobile application. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use our application ("CalJin AI" or the "App").

By downloading, installing, or using CalJin AI, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

To provide you with personalized calorie tracking and AI-powered nutrition insights, we collect the following types of information:

A. Account Information

If you choose to sign in to CalJin AI using Google Sign-In, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture URL from your Google account. This information is managed via Firebase Authentication and stored securely.

B. Personal & Health Data

During the onboarding process, we ask for:

  • Gender, Age, Weight, and Height: Used to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).
  • Fitness Goals: Your target weight and desired weekly progress rate.
  • Activity Level: Information about your daily lifestyle and workout habits.

This health data is stored locally on your device using Hive and is never transmitted to our servers.

C. Nutrition & Usage Data

  • Meal Logs: Records of the food you eat, including names, calorie counts, and macronutrients. Stored locally on your device.
  • Food Photos: Images captured via the device camera are transmitted to our AI service providers (Google Gemini and Groq) via our secure Cloudflare Worker proxy for processing. Images are not permanently stored on external servers after analysis.
  • Voice Audio: Audio captured via the microphone for voice meal logging is transmitted in real-time to Google's Gemini Live API for speech recognition and nutritional analysis. Audio is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored.
  • Text Meal Descriptions: Text you enter manually is transmitted to AI service providers via our Cloudflare Worker for nutritional analysis.

D. Device & Technical Data

  • App Usage Analytics: Anonymous usage data collected via Firebase Analytics.
  • Crash Reports: Anonymized diagnostics sent to Firebase Crashlytics.
  • Notification Preferences: Stored locally on your device.
  • Device Identifiers: Anonymous identifiers used by RevenueCat for subscription management.

2. Permissions We Request

Storage To save and retrieve meal photos and exported data
Notifications To send local meal reminders and goal tracking alerts
Internet To communicate with AI services and manage subscriptions

All notifications are generated locally on your device — we do not send remote push notifications. You can manage or revoke permissions through your device's system settings.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Personalized Planning: Generate custom calorie and macro targets
  • AI Analysis: Process images, audio, and text for nutritional estimation
  • Progress Tracking: Visualize your fitness journey
  • Subscription Management: Validate premium subscription status
  • App Improvement: Analyze anonymous usage patterns and crash reports

We do NOT use your data for advertising, third-party marketing, or sale to data brokers.

5. Data Storage & Security

  • Local Storage: Health profile, meal logs, and progress history stored locally using Hive on your device.
  • Cloud Processing: AI requests transmitted via HTTPS/TLS through our Cloudflare Worker proxy. Not permanently stored after processing.
  • API Security: AI provider API keys stored as encrypted secrets on Cloudflare infrastructure, never embedded in the App.
  • Industry Standards: HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit; secure on-device storage.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

  • On-Device Data: Persists until you delete it. Delete individual meal logs in-app, or clear all data via device settings or by uninstalling.
  • Account Deletion: Email support@caljinai.com to delete your Firebase account. We respond within 30 days.
  • Third-Party Data: AI service data is processed in real-time, not retained by us.

7. Data Export (Portability)

8. Regional Privacy Rights

A. European Economic Area, United Kingdom & Switzerland (GDPR)

You have the rights to: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability, withdrawal of consent, and complaint to your local data protection authority.

Legal basis for processing: consent (AI processing), contract (subscriptions), legitimate interests (app improvement and security).

B. California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

You have the rights to: know, delete, correct, opt-out of sale or sharing (we don't sell or share), limit use of sensitive personal information, and non-discrimination.

C. Other Jurisdictions

Users in Brazil (LGPD), India (DPDP), and other jurisdictions have substantially similar rights. Contact support@caljinai.com.

9. Children's Privacy

CalJin AI is not intended for users under 13 (16 in EEA). We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we discover such data, we delete it promptly. Parents may contact support@caljinai.com.

10. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access & Correction: Review and update your profile in Settings.
  • Data Deletion: Delete logs in-app, or remove all data via device settings.
  • Notification Control: Toggle in App or device settings.
  • Permission Management: Revoke via device system settings.
  • Opt-Out of AI Processing: Stop using camera, voice, or manual entry features to avoid sending data to AI services.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be notified in-app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
